Born in 1971 Father Ioseb (Soso Gachava), studied to be a film director before pursuing a clerical career. Together with his church duties he also taught drawing and decorative felt production in Samtskhe-Javakheti and Pshav-Khevsureti, the most strategically important border regions of Georgia. He organized four exhibitions with his students, as well as initiated several significant projects in eastern Georgia, among them: restoration of three old churches and launching the construction of an important Roshka-Arkhoti highway. As a cameraman he documented the events of the war between Russia and Chechnya. For the last two years Father Ioseb has lived in Prague, where he serves for the Orthodox Church of the Czech Republic. Gabriel Tanie is Father Ioseb’s nom de plume.
