LEBANIDZE SHORENA

Born in 1965 is a Georgian journalist and documentary prose writer. In 1989 she graduated from Journalism Department of the Tbilisi State University. In 1990-1997 years when she was a member of an editorial team of the first independent Georgian newspaper ‘7 Dghe’, was constantly writing articles, essays and critical letters about the complex socio-economic situation in Georgia and making reports from the conflict zones of Abkhazia and Samegrelo; Lebanidze also worked on journalistic investigations, reviewing all the important events of the time. Georgian readers clearly remember her sharp articles, which often brought to light the mistakes made by the government in the war of Abkhazia, or the secret details of the bloody battles, scandalous assassinations, and the terrorist acts against the important political figures of the time committed by the so called ‘Brotherhoods of Tbilisi’. In the following years Shorena Lebanidze worked as a journalist of the political division for the ‘Rezonansi’ newspaper and a page editor for ‘Saqartvelos Gazeti’ (The newspaper of Georgia). She was a journalist for news shows of such major television networks as ‘Rustavi 2’ and ‘Imedi’ and an editor for of the late night news show ‘Channel 9’. In the years 2006 through 2011 she was the script writer for the ‘Rustavi 2’ documentary film division and a part of the creative group for the films produced by this division. In 2012 by Artanuji Publishing House was published Shorena Lebanidze’s debut book It is me – Pirosmani, followed by two documentary-fiction novels Pass into the Conflict Zone (2014) and Manana Anua- 52 Days of Detention (2015).
