For the first time in the history of Georgian literature, the most important literary platform "Das Blaue Sofa" will host contemporary Georgian writer. Georgian Literature will be presented at the Leipzig Book Fair 2017 by 15 authors and 15 New German Translations. The program is organized by Georgian National Book Center, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung / Regional Program Political Dialogue South Caucasus.
The program is full of various kinds of literary events and stylistic diversity. There will be presented both modern and classical authors, poetry and prose, novels, short stories, essays, plays. Up to 20 literary events will be held during the Leipzig Book Fair at the fair ground and also at the well-known literary places of the city.
The Program includes the events of Naira Gelashvili, Ana kordzaia-Samadashvili, Basa Janikashvili, Eka Kevanishvili, Giorgi Lobzhanidze, Nika Jorjaneli, Diana Anphimiadi, Beso Khvedelidze, Abo Iashaghashvili, Bela Chekurishvili and Dato Barbakadze. And for the first time in the history of Georgian literature, one of the most important and prestigious literary platforms “das Blaue Sofa” will host contemporary Georgian writer, Naira Gelashvili. Naira Gelashvili and the Journalist Jörg Plath will discuss about her literary works and present the German translation of her novel “I Am That One”. The German edition of the novel was published last year by the famous and influential Publishing House Verbrecher Verlag Jörg Sundermeier.
For the promotion of Georgian Children’s books abroad Georgian National Book Center plans to host 15 German publishers at the “business lunch (Leipzig Book Fair – CCL Banketraum 3). Besides this, the representatives of Georgian National Book Center will meet various foreign publishers, literary agents and directors of German literary festivals to increase the awareness and interest towards Georgian Authors and Georgian literature.
In frames of the Georgian literary program there are 3 literary events planned for March in Germany, such as presentations of German translations of "Turist’s Breakfast" by Zaza Burchuladze, "Royal Mary" by Abo Iashaghashvili and "Who Murdered Chaika" by Ana Kordzaia-Samadashvili.
Georgian Literary Program organized by Georgian National Book Center is dedicated to the German – Georgian Friendship Year - 2017. The program is supported by German and Georgian publishers.
Georgia will be presented at the Leipzig Book Fair with it’s national stand for the sixth time.
