The professional workshop for Georgian and British translators takes place in Tbilisi. The project is initiated by Georgian National Book Center in cooperation with Writers`s Centre Norwich, British Centre for Literary Translation and British Council and Europe House Georgia.
The sessions will be led by British expert Daniel Hahn and Georgian translator Tamar Japaridze. The representative of British Centre for Literary Translation Catherine Lucy Griffin will be actively involved in critiquing translations process during the workshop. Within the project the texts from novels by British and Georgian contemporary authors Zurab Karumidze and David Szalay will be translated by participants in collaboration with the writers present.
The program consists of five days of intensive hands-on translation activity and discussion in depth the challenges of translating process from English into Georgian and from Georgian into English.
In purpose of improving translators’ skills, the workshop leaders will facilitate the conversation, encouraging the group to discuss all the possible translation options and solutions to particular challenges within the text.
